Galgotias University Faces Backlash Over ‘Robot Dog’ Claim at India AI Summit
Galgotias University is also under the scanner after a professor, Neha Singh, said that a robot dog named "Orion" was developed by the university's Centre of Excellence in a state broadcast at the India AI Impact Summit. However, social media users soon exposed the fact that the robot dog was actually a Chinese product named Unitree Go2, which retails for about $2,800. Although the university has denied that it had ever made the claim, and the IT Minister has deleted his post supporting the claim, the issue has created a political controversy, with the opposition party accusing the government of making India a "laughing stock" internationally. However, despite the controversy and difficulties faced at the summit, the summit remains one of the biggest platforms for AI development, having secured over $100bn in investment commitments from tech giants such as Microsoft and the Adani Group.
